SEMPRIA GmbH was founded in Düsseldorf in 2009 by Prof. Dr. Hermann Helbig, Dr. Sven Hartrumpf and employees of the working group IICS (Intelligent Information and Communication Systems; FernUniversität in Hagen). Prof. Helbig is an internationally renowned researcher. The technology startup for intelligent, language-understanding search engines began in 2010 with the first installations of its cognitive search engine as SaaS (Search-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service). By the way, SEMPRIA stands for Semantic Processing for Information Access.
The core issue of SEMPRIA GmbH in Düsseldorf is the development of language technology software. One focus lies on cognitive search engines (meaning-oriented search engines) that take into account the meaning of search queries and texts. Each founder has over 30 years of experience in knowledge processing, natural language processing (NLP) and information retrieval (IR).
